WHAT IS A DIETICIAN?

A Dietitian is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) who is qualified to provide expert nutrition advice and support. Dietitians use their in-depth knowledge of food and nutrition to help individuals improve their health and wellbeing. They are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat nutrition-related conditions, helping to manage a wide range of health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, digestive disorders, and food allergies.

Dietitians are university-trained health professionals, with a degree in dietetics, and they complete practical training in clinical, food service, and community settings. As members of Dietitians Australia, the professional association representing dietitians in Australia, they are held to high ethical standards and must undertake continuous professional development to ensure their knowledge remains current and evidence-based.Dietitians use their expertise to provide personalized nutrition care based on the latest research, helping people make informed food choices to optimise their health. They offer advice in areas like weight management, chronic disease prevention, and optimal nutrition during pregnancy, childhood, or other stages of life.
